2016/2017 International School Assessment

Acer-Test-Result-01

We are glad to announce that the results of 2016/2017 International School’ Assessment (ISA) are mostly above the world average in every measure of Mathematics, English Reading, Expository and Narrative Writing, even some are above the Asian Pacific average result.

ISA assessments can be broadly aligned with the PYP and MYP Curriculum. This result shows the education our students receive in Junior School will prepare them for better performance in their high school education.

GRADE 6 SUMMARY

Math: Excellent Results: By the time students are in grade six they are performing in math, on average, at the same level as the average Asian level, which is significantly beyond the world average level in math. This is quite remarkable since we spend more time developing conceptual understanding rather than simply training of algorithms. Our students, on average have both the western conceptual understanding and problem solving as well as the Asian curriculum drive for mastery of arithmetic, a good combination for future studies.
English: Our average students in every single facet of English tested are at the top world-wide. Reading, Expository writing and narrative writing are significantly above the World and Asian-Pacific average.

GRADE 3 SUMMARY

Math: Our grade threes are approximately on par with the median world average. The mean average in math was slightly below the world average for our students coming out of grade two. The evidence is, however, by the time they finish grade three their Math are above the world average (as seen in grade four graph) and continue to grow as seen by viewing the graphs for older grades. We are setting ourselves the challenge to raise it to the Asian average as we have done in other grades as well.
English: Excellent results: In Reading our grade three students are well beyond the world average. Also, on average, in narrative writing the students are at the international and Pacific-Asia level. In Expository writing our students are significantly ahead of the world-wide and Asia-Pacific levels.

Acer Test Result-03

The International School’ Assessment (ISA) is a set of tests used by international schools and schools with an international focus to monitor student performance over time and to confirm that their internal assessments are aligned with international expectations of performance. Designed and developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), the ISA mathematical literacy, reading and scientific literacy assessments are based on the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA).

ACER is one of the world’s leading educational research centers, committed to creating and promoting research-based knowledge, products and services that can be used to improve learning across the life span. ACER has built a strong reputation as a reliable provider of support and expertise to education policy makers and professional practitioners since it was established in 1930.

The ISA is designed specifically for students in Grades 3–10 in international schools and schools with an international focus, whose language of instruction is English.

How Does the ISA align with the IB curriculum? IB and ACER are mutually interested in investigating what impact, if any, different school programs such as the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) have on students’ progress, and what kind of impact PYP and MYP programs have on schools and cohorts of students over time. ACER anonymises all data that it shares with the IB to protect individual schools and students.
