Making the Most of Your Child’s First 5 Years

“The first five years have so much to do with how the next 80 turn out,” – Bill Gates, Philanthropist

The first five years of your child’s life are a critical period for development. God has created the human body in such a way that early childhood is the most important stage of development which forms the foundation of a child’s life for the future. It is also the most rapid period of development in a human life[1]. This is the stage where a child’s brain cells and neuron development takes place most rapidly.

Much neurological research shows that the early years are highly significant in children’s brain development[2]. Children’s early experiences in everyday life through interaction and stimulation will eventually affect their future physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. Everything they see, hear, touch, smell and taste will stimulate their brain, creating millions of connections that will be the foundation for their learning, health and behavior.

Over the past decade, there has been an increasing awareness of the importance of early childhood education[3]. Research has also shown that children who receive excellent early childhood education “tend to be more successful as they grow older and are more competent socially and emotionally”[4]. Therefore, to make the most of your child’s first five years is the best investment we can make in ensuring their future success.

Furthermore, Milton V. Uecker, Director of the Lowrie Center for Christian School Education who is also an expertise in Early Childhood Education, stated the importance of Christian early childhood education program [5]:

“It is important that families choose Christian schooling at the beginning of their children’s education since early education is the foundation for not only later academic success but also a biblical worldview.”

Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) provides a complete family package of Early Childhood Education programs, specially designed for children aged 1-5 years old. We provide holistic Biblical education with enjoyable and stimulating learning environment for your child that will enhance his or her development in many areas:

  • Spiritual aspects: By teaching them about God and leading them to faith to Jesus Christ
  • Language-rich environment: Through songs, stories, daily conversations and instructions
  • Basic math concepts: By teaching colors, shapes, geometry and patterns
  • Structured play: To develop body coordination, motor skills and their confidence. As Milton V. Uecker puts it, “They are designed to learn through hands-on, active engagement and purposeful play.”
  • Social & important life skills: Children must be taught everything. Through their interaction with other children and adults, they may learn the basic values of sharing, kindness and also respect and obedience for parents and teachers. The teachers also train them to do daily things by themselves (e.g.: eating and tidying up their toys) .

Our new Early Childhood Program facilities

We also provide the students with teachers who are experts in their fields, with caring hearts that pay attention to each child’s need. The facilities also provide a secure environment for young learners to explore and enjoy the learning process.

We believe that a holistic Christian education should start early so as  to lay a strong foundation in a child’s life that will affect their future. Our children are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Ps. 139:14) and they are “gift from the Lord, they are a reward from him,” (Ps. 127:3). By educating a young child with a holistic Christian approach, we believe that our children will flourish and grow spiritually, mentally, physically, socially.
