SPH Sentul City 25th Anniversary Celebration

The SPH Sentul City community is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. On January 19, 2019, SPH Sentul City held its 25th-anniversary celebration in a full-day event where families, teachers, and staff engaged in many fun and family-friendly activities. At the main stage, the celebration was begun by an opening ceremony, “Poco Poco” dance – a traditional Northern Sulawesi dance, and a talent show.

There were other interesting activities outside the main stage such as “Nasi Tumpeng” making (a traditional Indonesian celebratory food), face painting, and other sports activities where everyone could have fun together. From this event, we witnessed how close their community is. SPH Sentul City is known for its tight community and this is confirmed by Ibu Stephanie as one of the teachers:

“I think the best thing about SPH Sentul is the community that we belong to. Our relationship is very tight where you can learn and grow; it is a very supportive community that will support your growth.”

As the Head of School, Mr. Matthew Mann also acknowledged this:

“Something that we have noticed in our school over time is that children are happy to be here. It is one of the most distinctive things about SPH Sentul. So that’s why a Saturday family fun day is just a really appropriate way to celebrate the 25 years of operating as a school.”

Two months after that, on March 21, 2019, the school held the Thanksgiving Celebration, as they celebrated the historical day of SPH Sentul City that was established on the same date 25 years ago. All of SPH community – the founder, leaders, teachers, staff, students, parents, and alumni – gathered at SPH Sentul City gymnasium to join this celebration.

One of the highlights of this event was giving gifts to teachers and staff who had served for 25 years. There were Ibu Harumdah (School Principal), Ibu Yulvita Hadi Yarti (Senior School Teacher), Ibu Theresia Dwiyanti (Head of HRD), Bapak Dayat Hartoto (GA Housekeeping Staff), Bapak Suproni (GA Field Staff), Bapak Tamsir (GA Field Staff) and Bapak Yahya (GA Field Staff). We are grateful for those who have been committed to providing the best service and supporting education at SPH Sentul City.

The celebration was filled with students’ musical performance and also with parents and alumni testimonies. One of the alumni was Ryan Adhy Pradhana, who now serves as an officer in National Police Headquarters of the Republic of Indonesia. There were other alumni who also came and recalled their precious memories when they attended SPH.

The founder of SPH, James Riady gave his speech and reminded the audience about why this school was established in the first place. He also encouraged the students to maximize their talents so that they can bring transformation in this broken world.

“You need to pursue your God-given, unique talents, but it better be also combined with a special calling God has put in your heart to make this world a better place.”

The celebration was ended with a tree planting ceremony by James and Aileen Riady as the school founder; Phillip Nash, Matthew Mann, and Brett Bonnema as the school leaders, alongside with some kindergarten students.

Founded in 1994, Sentul has undergone many changes over the years. At first an SMA (high school), it added SMP (junior high school) and SD (elementary school) in subsequent years. As recently as 2018, Sentul expanded once again to add 2-year-olds and 3-year-olds! Originally a national school, it gradually changed curriculum over the years: in 2003, SPH Sentul City became the first school in Indonesia to offer all three IB programmes.

SPH Sentul City is undergoing a facility renewal process now, as original learning spaces are being rapidly upgraded to current standards. We pray that the Lord will continue to use the ministry of this school to bless thousands of children over the coming years!
