10 Mei 2024

On April 20, 2024, SPH Kemang Village’s Director of Student Support Services, Jami Sefiane, and Grade 11 student, Zara, took part in SENIA Indonesia’s Second Annual Conference in Jakarta.
Held at Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), this conference brought together educators and leaders passionate about creating inclusive learning environments from all over Jakarta. The theme, “Building a Community of Belonging,” resonated throughout the day’s events, with students taking center stage to share their perspectives and practical strategies. More than 130 attendees participated in sessions designed to build awareness.
In the opening keynote address, Zara, a Grade 11 student from SPH Kemang Village, offered a unique view on inclusivity – the impact of having a neurodiverse family member from the sibling’s perspective. Her insights resonated with many attendees, highlighting the importance of considering the experiences of all members of a school community.
One attendee shared their comment reflecting Zara’s message, “Her speech required courage and was an honest testimony of the challenges, strengths, and moments of extreme pride and happiness that are brought by sharing her life with a neurodivergent sibling. This reality, her reality, is what has an impact as it is what makes people connect with her. The connection brings about awareness for greater inclusion! Well done, Zara!”

Jami Sefiane, SPH Kemang Village’s Director of Student Support Services, presented a session on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) supported through a multi-tiered system. This session equipped educators with valuable tools and strategies to integrate SEL into their daily practices, fostering a more supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. She also facilitated a “job-alike” session, creating a space for school leaders to network and share ideas and resources.
The SENIA Indonesia Conference’s focus on student voices and practical tools aligns perfectly with the theme of “Building a Community of Belonging.” By bringing together educators, leaders, and students, the conference fostered a shared commitment to creating inclusive learning environments where all students feel valued and supported.
