From the Classroom for the Community: 2 SPH Kemang Village Students Spearheaded a Free Medical Check-up Program

On August 3, 2024, nine of our high school students generously volunteered their time to offer free medical check-ups at Jesus Center Church, East Jakarta, reaching out to 50 individuals aged 19-75.
This heartwarming initiative was spearheaded by two of our Grade 12 students, Joy and Nadine. Joy has always felt called to help others. She observes numerous opportunities to make a difference, starting within her own community—her church. This idea resonated deeply with Nadine’s passion for medicine. Nadine shared, “As a student passionate about medicine, I’ve often heard that the goal of studying medicine is to serve people. However, opportunities can be scarce. This initiative wasn’t just about serving others; it was about giving students a chance to take small steps toward making a significant impact.” Nadine invited seven of her friends who were also eager to serve in this project. Looking ahead, Joy shared her vision of expanding the medical check-up initiative to reach even more people, enhancing health awareness within the community.
