A Journey of Self-Discovery and Growing in Faith

Yunah

Grade 8 Student

SPH Sentul City

SPH is a place where I discovered who I am—as a friend, a student, a sister, and a daughter. Studying at this school for seven years has helped me learn how to share ideas, grow confidence, lead others, and support my classmates. My journey at SPH has not always been easy, but it has shaped me into who I am today.

When I first joined SPH, I could not speak English at all. I was very shy and felt nervous even saying hello to my classmates. Communicating my thoughts and understanding lessons felt overwhelming, and I often doubted myself. After only two months at school, COVID-19 reached Indonesia, and we had to study online for almost two years. Learning through Zoom made it even harder for me to connect with others, and because I was not close to my classmates yet, I often felt alone and disconnected.

When I returned to campus in Grade 5, things slowly began to change. Being back at school allowed me to build friendships and feel more comfortable in the community. As I moved into Grade 6 and entered senior school, my English teacher helped me understand that I learn differently. This explained why language-based tasks were more challenging for me, especially in an IB curriculum where reading, writing, speaking, and listening are all important. At first, this was difficult to accept, and I felt discouraged, but it also became a moment of growth in my journey.

From that point on, many teachers supported me with patience and encouragement. They gave me opportunities to practice my English skills and helped me focus on progress rather than perfection. Through their guidance, I gained confidence in expressing my ideas and learned not to be afraid of making mistakes. This season also strengthened my faith, as I learned to bring my worries to God in prayer and trust that He has a purpose for the abilities He has given me.

Over the years, I have grown not only academically, but also personally and spiritually. I have learned how to reflect on my thinking, improve my skills, and accept myself while continuing to grow. SPH’s warm and supportive community helped me feel valued and understood, and it taught me the importance of helping and serving others.

Today, I am grateful that God placed me in SPH Sentul City, where I am encouraged to flourish and shine as His child. I continue to work on improving my English and developing my character, and I am confident that what I have learned here will prepare me well for the future. SPH has taught me to grow in leadership, serve others with humility, and deepen my faith through weekly chapel and daily devotions. I believe that the lessons, values, and faith I have gained at SPH will guide me in my future studies, relationships, and walk with Christ.
