Alvaro’s Story: 13 Years of Stepping Beyond Comfort & Living by Faith
Alvaro
Grade 10 Student
SPH Lippo Village

Being at SPH for thirteen years has helped me grow into the person I am today. Spending so much time in such a supportive yet challenging environment allowed me to discover my passions from technology and innovation to leadership and creativity. The balance between academic rigor and a caring community taught me perseverance, curiosity, and emotional maturity. SPH gave me the space to explore my interests while also pushing me to step out of my comfort zone, think deeply, and lead with empathy. Most importantly, it strengthened my faith in Christ, teaching me not only how to think critically and work hard, but also how to grow in character and purpose as a follower of Him.
Looking back, SPH has been the place where most of my growth happened. When I was still in kindergarten and junior school, I remember joining Student Council and Strings I didn’t realize it then, but those experiences helped me build confidence, creativity, and leadership early on. As I got older, SPH kept challenging me in new ways.
It showed me how to stay disciplined and committed, even when things got tough. The IB curriculum also had a huge impact on me, as it taught me how to research, think critically, and approach problems from different perspectives. Those skills became even more meaningful through the Applied Science Academy, where I could take what I learned from IB and use it in real-world projects focused on innovation and discovery. Every step of the way, SPH didn’t just teach me subjects it taught me how to grow, lead, and keep exploring who I’m meant to be.
What makes the SPH community stand out is how genuine and connected it feels.
Older students and teachers are always willing to guide and support the younger ones, and there’s this culture of encouragement instead of competition. Whether it’s during school events, chapel, or even after classes, people actually care about one another. What ties it all together is the shared belief in Christ, which shapes the way we treat each other with kindness, humility, and love. That Christ-centered community is what makes SPH feel different; it’s not just a school, it’s a place where you grow both in knowledge and in character.
I’m most proud of growing up in a place that shaped not just my education, but my character and faith. Being part of SPH for thirteen years has given me a strong foundation built on perseverance, curiosity, and a Christ-centered mindset. I’ve learned what it means to lead with compassion, to work hard with integrity, and to use my gifts to serve others. SPH has always taught me that success means more when it impacts people positively. As I move forward, I want to carry that legacy by living out what I’ve learned here to keep leading with purpose, to pursue excellence with humility, and to use my passions to make a difference while reflecting Christ in everything I do.
