Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) continues to aim higher and serve better through this year’s Professional Development (PD) Day. As the first inperson PD Day after three years, about 400 teachers, staff, and leaders of SPH Lippo Village, SPH Sentul City, SPH Lippo Cikarang, SPH Kemang Village, and SPH Pluit Village were ready to undergo professional training, as well as getting to know fellow staff members and/or teachers from the other SPH campuses. It was a day of equipping one another to better serve students and families in their areas of influence, as it also served as an opportunity for teachers and staff to spend a day off work, learn new skills, and collaborate with others, with more than 50 facilitators offering over 15 professional sessions ranging from Navigating through Difficult Discussions with Students to Microsoft Excel 101.

The Goal Behind Professional Development

The heart of this Professional Development (PD) Day was to encourage and equip the team. The day started with a worship and devotion session and continued with a quarterly team meeting led by our Executive Director, Matthew Mann. For the remainder of the day, teachers and administrators were assigned to respective groups to discuss in detail how they could grow and implement what they have learned in their areas of expertise. Teachers would gather in a bigger group to discuss how education is about students creating beautiful work guided by teachers’ multilevel support, while administrators would discuss change culture and identify areas critical for improvement.

Empowered to Empower

The leadership team believes in championing and empowering the teaching and staff community by giving staff members, teachers, and even leaders the opportunity to lead a session, which could benefit the entire SPH team. Teachers and administrators had the opportunity to learn from their peers in Marketing, Talent Management, and Academics, through sessions such as Canva 101 Class, Financial Stewardship, and classes specifically for librarians, laboratorians, and/or career counselors. As they approached the end of PD Day, while teachers of the same discipline or subject across five campuses had the chance to come together, learn from each other, and discuss how each campus might conduct their class in a particular manner, administrators from each campus would respectively discuss practical solutions for campus-related issues. All in all, despite the distinct method or technique, the SPH teaching and staff community simply seeks to deliver one vision and mission through excellent educational experiences.

SPH Kemang Village gracefully hosted Professional Development Day 2022 with such ease and hospitality, that the day seemed effective and efficient for all. The team has been encouraged, equipped, and reminded that God will continue to do His good work in and through us, individually and collectively as an institution.
