Virtual Book Week at SPH

Last year, our Junior School held the long-awaited Book Week virtually! They had Mystery Character #1 where they had to guess a book character based on clues given. The next day, the Book Week schedule was “Move to Read” and students built their own “reading forts” while enjoying a book reading session by our teachers.

One of the most awaited activities in Book Week is Character Day & Parade, where teachers & students wear costumes according to a book character. We can see how everyone was highly enthusiastic and they were very creative & all-out! We thank parents who also have made the effort to help their children with their Character Day costumes.

On the 4th day, they held Pajamas Day where students & teachers got cozy in their pajamas & read their favorite books. On the last day of JS Virtual Book Week, we had a special event which was the Author’s Talk. They did a reading session and shared their passion for writing with students from Kindy up to Grade 6. We are very much inspired!

Through this event, we continue to raise our community’s awareness of the importance of books. Books and stories will always have a special place in our learning.

Reading really brings out the imagination and creativity within the students. It also helps with their language development and vocabulary. Even though we may not be able to go to many places due to quarantine, we can access a whole new world through books. Mason Cooley said, “Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are,” and Stephen King said, “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” Let’s keep reading and let our imaginations wander!
